Selena Gomez - Hit The Lights [Music Video Premiere]
I'll admit, I don't really like Selena Gomez' latest album When the Sun Goes Down because it is what it is, a bunch of songs bigger pop artists rejected. Who Says was fine till she destroyed it with the awful live performances, Love You Like a Love Song was overrated and too robotic, but I'm afraid I'm quite liking the THIRD single Hit the Lights. It's remarkable because Hollywood Records tends to give up on an album after its second single, and promotion for the second single is usually rubbish so it flops (see: Hilary Duff's Stranger and Miley Cyrus' Who Owns My Heart). But Selena's fanbase has taken very well to Love You.. and sent the song to become another hit.
So Hollywood Records have finally started acting like an actual record label and released a third single. It's a move further into electro/pop territory and the further she ventures into this subgenre, the more I like it. Hit the Lights is very much a carefree number about living your life etc. without coming across cheesy to the point where its cringeworthy. And as with every Gomez video, there's always one look where she looks flawless and the rest I'm not too fond of. But overall, I don't like some of the camera angles and the behind the scenes video of the disco ball in the forest and the flashlights party in the middle of the road showed that they could've looked a lot better than those scenes actually did in the video.
Now if only Demi would hurry up with a second single already. All Night Long please.
The Christina Aguilera-assisted single Moves Like Jagger may be still on top of the Hot 100, but come next week, Adele and Rihanna could overthrow Maroon 5 and Xtina, especially with Adele's Someone Like You collecting the Airplay Gainer Title while staying firmly at #2. Rihanna's new single We Found Love makes a Top 20 appearance, debuting at #16 this week while Jason DeRulo's new track It Girl rises to #24. Kelly Clarkson's Mr. Know It All takes a three spot slip down to #38. Disney starlets Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez move up the chart with Demi's Skyscraper standing at #55 while Selena's tune Love You Like A Love Song is right behind with #56. Glee is back for a new season and so are its tunes, with It's Not Unusual debuting at #65, You Can't Stop The Beat at #67 and We Got The Beat at #83. It's the release weeks of Demi Lovato's Unbroken album, and album cuts Fix A Heart and title track Unbroken land on the chart at #69 and #98 respectively.
Over on the albums chart, Tony Bennett's Duets II album opens at #1, trailed by Lady Antebellum's Own The Night, Adele's 21 and Demi Lovato's third studio album Unbroken in that order to #4.
LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem is still reigning at #1 on the Hot 100, but Katy Perry is really gaining some serious ground with latest single Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), peaking at #2 this week with the Airplay Gainer Title. Bad Meets Evil aka Eminem and Royce da 5'9" have a new single out featuring Bruno Mars called Lighters which hops on the trend of singers singing on rapper's tracks at enters the Top 10 at #10 thanks to the Digital Gainer Title. Britney's new tune I Wanna Go is also inching closer to the Top 10, landing just outside at #11 this week. Beyonce's dreary and completely dull ballad Best Thing I Never Had moves up to #19 this week, the first time any of Bey's songs from the 4 era has made it into the Top 20. Rihanna's summer ballad California King Bed shoots up ten spots to #37 this week while Nicole Scherzinger stays firmly at #39 with Right There. Selena Gomez & The Scene's Love You Like A Love Song continues free falling down the chart, landing at #44 this week. But I guess this week's biggest faller is Demi Lovato's Skyscraper. Despite the pop ballad becoming Lovato's highest charting song on the Hot 100 to date at #10, it's slipped all the way to #51 this week. Oof. But it's not all bleak in the pop world as Jennifer Lopez' I'm Into You rises further to #55 despite not having any proper promotion in the States. Avril Lavigne's Smile is entrenched at #80 this week. Making its way up is Adele's Someone Like You, inching up to #85 this week.
Parent album 21 has also regained top spot over on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. Since her untimely death, Amy Winehouse has seen a massive resurgence in terms of album and single sales, and second album Back to Black re-enters the chart at #9 while first album Frank debuts at #57, actually marking a new peak for the album. Falling out of the Top 10 and at #15 this week is Colbie Caillat's third disc All of You. Christina Perri's debut set Lovestrong skyrockets up the chart at #54 up from #90 the previous week. David Cook continues plummeting down the chart as This Loud Morning falls to #73 this week.
Party Rock Anthem and Pitbull's Give Me Everything have both maintained their first two spots on the Hot 100, but Katy Perry's gaining serious momentum now with Last Friday Night racking up the Airplay Gainer Title. After peaking at #35 last week, Selena Gomez' lulzy new single Love You Like A Love Song has slipped two spots down to #37 while Nicole Scherzinger's not unpleasant midtempo number Right There rises to #39 this week. The Kelly Clarkson assisted track Don't You Wanna Stay by Jason Aldean has re-arrived at #48. The currently single Jennifer Lopez' current single I'm Into You moves up to #66. Colbie Caillat's album All of You has dropped and album cut What If debuts at #77 while Avril Lavigne's current single Smile rises to a new peak of #80 this week. Adele, fresh off the back of her 7 VMA nominations, has got a new song on the Hot 100 that's not Rolling In The Deep. It's her most recent UK #1 - Someone Like You, re-entering the Hot 100 at #97 after a brief one week stay the week 21 was released.
Blake Shelton's new album Red River Blue bows at #1 over on the Billboard 200 Album Chart while Colbie Caillat's new disc All Of You debuts at #6, mostly due to little hype around the project. Selena Gomez & the Scene's third album When The Sun Goes Down falls to #10 this week. Scotty McCreery's sure got a loyal fanbase with his American Idol Season 10 Highlights disc attaining the Greatest Gainer Title at #20 this week. America really needed a Country American Idol again after all. In its third week out, David Cook's This Loud Morning is plummeting down the chart at #57 this week. This man really needs a mega crossover hit right now, though nothing on This Loud Morning would do it for him though. Adele's iTunes Festival EP has debuted at #62 this week. Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby album has risen exactly twenty spot to #149 this week.

Katy Perry seems unable to move past #4 with her latest single Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.). But it appears OneRepublic is on track to score their first mega hit since Apologize went to #2 a couple years back, with latest single Good Life vaulting into the Top 10, collecting the Digital Gainer Title standing at #8 this week. Jason DeRulo and Britney Spears are also both heading upwards this week, with Don't Wanna Go Home moving up to #16 and I Wanna Go rising to #17. Beyonce could very well get her first proper hit this era with Best Thing I Never Had rising to #23. Putting two mega country stars together often means big sales, and Brad Paisley's collaboration with Carrie Underwood on Remind Me seems to be doing a neat job for itself, hitting a new peak of #27 with virtually no promotion. And this streak of moving upwards is even affecting Disney darling Selena Gomez and her hypnotically robotic new single Love You Like A Love Song leaping from #66 to #35 this week. Rihanna's summer ballad California King Bed is also inching its way to the top, moving to #47 this week. You thought you'd never see this day coming, but Nicole Scherzinger's Right There seems to be rubbing American audiences the right way, peaking at #52 this week while fellow reality TV singing competition judge Jennifer Lopez, amidst her divorce with husband Marc Anthony, moves up the chart with I'm Into You at an all time high of #72. Avril Lavigne's new single Smile has finally arrived on the Hot 100, debuting at #94.
Over on the Albums Chart, Beyonce and Adele are non-movers with 4 and 21 holding the top two positions on the chart in that order while Selena Gomez & Her Virtual Band's new disc When The Sun Goes Down rises a spot to #3 after debuting at #4 last week. David Cook, however, has taken a little tumble as This Loud Morning falls from #7 to #26 this week. For reasons no one knows, the soundtrack to Christina Aguilera's debut film Burlesque scoops the Greatest Gainer Award as the album shoots up to #68 up from #147. British pop artist Ellie Goulding has found her way back to the chart as Lights re-enters at #127.
Pitbull has finally gotten his first #1 single with Give Me Everything rising a spot to reign on the Hot 100, closely followed by Adele's mega smash hit Rolling in the Deep. Katy Perry had the Summer Song of 2010 with California Gurls, and since then, she's now onto her fifth single Last Friday Night (TGIF) which could very well go on to be the Summer Song of 2011, rocketing to #4 this week with the Airplay Gainer Title. Maroon 5's Christina Aguilera assisted track Moves Like Jagger debuts at a shockingly high spot of #8. Impressive. The release of When The Sun Goes Down has boosted its first single, with Selena Gomez & The Scene's platinum-selling hit Who Says hitting a new peak of #21 while Selena's latest single lifted off the album Love You Like A Song debuts at #72 this week. Landing the Digital Gainer Title is Britney Spears, as latest single I Wanna Go vaults up to a brand new peak of #29. Rihanna's California King Bed seems to have stalled at #53, a tad too slow for summer, no? However, Man Down is still headed upwards, rising to #59 this week. Beyonce's Best Thing I Never Had moves upwards as well, hitting #58 this week. Nicole Scherzinger's not doing too bad for herself, as Right There moves to a new peak of #62. While Top 3 smash On The Floor is falling down the chart, JLo's I'm Into You is slowly making its way up, moving to #88 this week.
Over on the Albums Chart, Jill Scott's The Light of the Sun, Bon Iver's album of the same name, and Adele's 21 are at #1, #2 and #3 respectively.
Selena Gomez & The Scene - Love You Like A Love Song [Music Video Premiere]
Selena Gomez has moved on to a new single Love You Like A Love Song a week before third studio album When The Sun Goes Down drops. Of course, Selena's Disney's only pop princess out with new music right now, so her single Who Says has naturally (see what I did there) become the dominant song on the minds of screaming tweens all over the world, eventually going Platinum. Not surprisingly, her label want to capitalise on this and dropped the music video for Love You Like A Love Song, which starts off with the Wizards of Waverly Place star singing in a Japanese karaoke bar.
Overall, it comes off as a little tacky, especially with the unrealistic computer graphics that give an overall meh feel. However, the two looks she had, the one with the heavy eyeliner, jet black straight hair and black outfit, and the other one where she tried to hit in the pink grass-filled with Mexican musicians surrounding her, both slayed me because she looked amazeballs there.
The Top 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 remain untouched for yet another week with Adele's Rolling in the Deep remaining at #1 while Pitbull's Give Me Everything follows closely at #2. Jennifer Lopez' Pitbull-assisted track On The Floor falls to #7 this week. Jason DeRulo and OneRepublic take a slight dip to #18 and #20 with their latest tunes Don't Wanna Go Home and Good Life respectively. Katy Perry, however, is rocketing up the chart with her new single Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) shooting to a new peak at #31. Brad Paisley's Remind Me, a duet with Carrie Underwood, debuts at #59 thanks to digital downloads, while Rihanna enters the Top 60 as California King Bed creeps up five spots to #60 and Man Down making a new peak at #63. Beyonce's new single Best Thing I Never Had momentarily moves up, hitting an all new high of #75. Moving up at the minute too is Nicole Scherzinger and Right There moving up to #80. Jennifer Lopez isn't about to be outdone, as I'm Into You also heads further up the chart at #88 this week from #96 last week. Selena Gomez & The Scene's iTunes promotional single Bang Bang Bang impacts the chart at #94.
Lady Gaga's Born This Way album has been replaced by monster album Adele's 21. As Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour kicks off to stellar reviews, the album the tour supports moves up to #23 up from #37 last week.
Selena Gomez & The Scene new track: Love You Like A Love Song + 3 album tracks!
Selena Gomez and her virtual band no one cares about, have premiered their next official single after Top 30 hit Who Says have gone platinum. They released an iTunes single Bang Bang Bang last week which has strangely grown on me. It's not an immediately amazing song, but with time, it's subtlety has won me over.
Love You Love Song somewhat falls into the same category, but sort of stuck halfway between the teen poppy beats of Naturally and the more mature danciness of Bang Bang Bang. It's alright, I supppose.
You can check out her debut performance on Love You Like A Love Song live on GMA below. She's still rather dull and has no stage presence whatsoever, but I'm not surprised.
Earlier this week, Selena also had the misfortune of having three of her songs from upcoming album The Sun Goes Down make their way online. Oh, they're all co-writes from major stars by the way.
First up is We Own The Night, a Pixie Lott co-write, which I wouldn't blame you for thinking it's Pixie's new single, simply for the fact this has Pixie and her vocals all over the track. A bit like Chris Brown Joe Jonas' See No More. It follows the campfire, sing along type of track that Jessie J's Price Tag sounds like. I would've preferred Lott's soulful vocals over this silky track then Selena's paper thin vocals but if it means Lott's upcoming music is better than this, I'm all for it.
Next is a Britney co-write, titled Whiplash, which follows the heavy beats of Hold It Against Me, and in fact, sounds like it could be its b-sides. When you're Selena Gomez, you settle for pop star rejects, especially since this Disney Teen Queen can't write her material at all. It's really just a bland Femme Fatale leftover.
Last, and actually least, is a Katy Perry reject called That's More Like It, with Selena Gomez playing spoilt princess as she orders people around to pamper her. With every Katy Perry song that's going out there, it's just getting worse and worse. From the markedly improved Long Shot and I Do Not Hook Up Katy tracks that were handed to Kelly Clarkson from her All I Ever Wanted album to.. This?
Once again, a Selena Gomez & The Scene album not worth buying. At all.

After making a new peak at #29 last week, Beyonce's Run The World (Girls) falls a sharp drop to #55. Katy Perry's Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) re-enters the Hot 100 at #63 now that it's released as an official single. Rihanna's California King Bed and Man Down are both on the rise as they both make a new peak at #65 and #66 respectively. Album release week, second single Judas, though considered a flop by Gaga's standards, has re-arrived at #78. Beyonce's new rush released single Best Thing I Never Had enters at #84. Girl.. Get yourself together and save this era before 4 becomes flop fodder. Oh wait. It already is. Regardless, 1 + 1 rounds out the Top 90 at #90 this week. All this X Factor USA controversy has paid off for Nicole Scherzinger as Right There moves up six spots to #91. Jennifer Lopez' current single I'm Into You has found its way to the chart again at #96.

Uhuh. Selena Gomez has released the artwork for her upcoming third disc When the Sun Goes Down. I'm quite digging this album title but judging by that picture, you'd think Kelly Clarkson handed her her leaked Cleopatra demo.
However, Britney has given the Disney starlet some Femme Fatale leftovers. Well, she seems to be the Disney star getting all the leftovers. Which explains just why her albums are all terrible: Filler, filler, filler.

Getting the Greatest Gainer title is Adele over on the albums chart as #21 remains at #1. I think this could really be the album that will launch her to a bona fide superstar. Glee's new unnecessary album of The Warblers debuts at #2 while Britney slides back into the Top 5 as Femme Fatale rises a spot to #5. Jennifer Hudson's new album I Remember Me is sliding down the chart quickly as Hudson falls to #39 only in its fifth week out. Jessie J is heading the other way on the albums chart, with Who You Are plummeting to #42 in its second week of release. Miranda Cosgrove makes a reappearance on the chart at #134 this week with High Maintainence.

Sneaking into the Top 40 is Jessie J with Price Tag making an all-new peak of #40 this week. Rocketing up the charts is Taylor Swift and her new single Mean as it makes a new peak of #48 this week since it got released as an official single off the album. Jennifer Hudson continues a downward slip to #82 with Where You At. Definitely another one of the sleeper hits, OneRepublic re-enters the chart at #97 with Good Life.

Jennifer Hudson's sophomore effort I Remember Me falls to #11, down 4 spots from last week. Carrie Underwood must be doing something right, after her third disc Play On re-entered the chart at #164 last week, it's now leaped to a phenomenol #73.
Selena Gomez & The Scene - Who Says live on Dancing With The Stars
Selena Gomez & the Scene are still out promoting their pleasantly summery new single Who Says. The last big performance of Who Says was on The Ellen Show and that was a hot mess with Selena trying to overwork her paper thin vocals and running around the stage with virtually no sense of rhythm at all. But of course, just standing there like a doll requires little effort so this performance on Dancing With The Stars was a lot more pleasing to the ears.
Katy Perry and Rihanna are right at the top of the Hot 100 with E.T. leading the way with the Airplay Gainer Title while S&M closes in at #2. Jennifer Lopez' On The Floor inches closer to its peak at #5 while Adele shoots into the Top 10 with Rolling In The Deep hitting a brand new peak of #10. It's Femme Fatale release week and Britney's Till The World Ends rises 9 spots to #13. Bruno Mars' The Lazy Song gains more traction on the charts and makes a new peak of #27 this week. Heading the other way is Selena Gomez & The Scene's Who Says, which falls to #33. Still inching her way up is Jessie J and Price Tag, will crawls a measly one spot to a new peak of #49. As mentioned before, it's Femme Fatale release week and I Wanna Go from the album has debuted at #73.

Poor Selena Gomez. Girl barely cracked a move on stage but was running out of breath on stage. I'll admit, I would rather see her try to sing live as compared to lipsynching, but dang. That just wasn't good.
Still, I do like Who Says. But if this is another two single per album era, I'm out.
Selena Gomez & The Scene - Who Says [Music Video Premiere]
Looking absolutely gorgeous is Selena Gomez in her new music video for Who Says, the lead single lifted from the group's third studio album tentatively set to be released later this year. But did you really expect her to be anything other than gorgeous?
The video starts off with her doing a glamorous photoshoot, before taking off her heels and earrings and running around the city, with words that match the song's lyrics. Then she enters a cab and reaches a little desert before she changes into somthing a little more summery/casual before performing with her band around a bunch of excited teens. It's simple, but fits the bill.
Selena Gomez & The Scene are back after a little break (well, not really. They went on tour) with a new track Who Says, the lead single from their upcoming third album. Unfortunately, I find this two singles per album a terribly bad strategy, and while her first two albums Kiss & Tell and A Year Without Rain have gone Gold, this promotional strategy will definitely kill off sales of her album. Nevertheless, Who Says ties in with the same Firework, F**kin' Perfect, Born This Way, We R Who We R etc. kind of 'inspirational pop' songs. It does annoy me a bit, but Who Says is a kind of guitar-led, bouncy summer pop track that isn't clubby/beat-y. Which is nice enough. But Who Says isn't as great as A Year Without Rain (the song). Boo.

Artist Of The Month. (November 2011)
The Power Rangers of British pop, The Saturdays, are returning this year with a more mature sound and image, with the girlband taking a stab at the pop/dance wave with their fourth album On Your Radar's first single Notorious being a total flip in direction in their sound, and was noticeably more clubby compared to their previous singles and albums. They then took things a level further with the complete rave-tastic All Fired Up, which is without a doubt their best single release, not surprising since the track was produced by production powerhouse Xenomania, the machine behind pretty much all of Girls Aloud's discography. The pop five-piece are charging forward with the Christmassy ballad My Heart Takes Over before their album On Your Radar drops November 21st!
