Billboard Update

LMFAO's rubbish Party Rock Anthem is still on top, reigning at #1 on the Hot 100 again while Katy Perry's Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) is still entrenched at #2. Hell Meets Evil's Bruno Mars assisted second single Lighter vaults to #5, notching up the Airplay Gainer Title. Britney Spears' third Top 10 single from #1 album Femme Fatale, I Wanna Go, rises up to a new peak of #7 while Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's collaboration on Moves Like Jagger lands the Digital Gainer Title and shoots up to its original peak position of #8 when it debuted on the chart earlier up from #25 last week. Jennifer Lopez' I'm Into You is just beginning to gain some serious momentum, rising to #41 this week. Rihanna's new single Cheers (Drink To That) enters the top half of the Hot 100 for the first time, skyrocketing to #50 up from #91 last week. Adele's Someone Like You is finally getting exposure in the US, vaulting up to #57. Avril Lavigne may have announced that she's shot the video for third single Wish You Were Here from the underperforming Goodbye Lullaby album, but second single Smile is still making its way up the chart, hitting a new peak of #68. After making a US edition of song Starry Eyed, it seems the American audience has finally warmed up to Ellie Goulding as her most recent UK single Lights debuts at #85 on the Hot 100.

Adele reclaims her #1 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart while Kelly Rowland takes a ten spot tumble down to #13 with Here I Am. David Cook's sophomore album This Loud Morning stands at #142 this week while Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby rises two spots up to #160. Billboard Update

The annoying Party Rock Anthem has found its way to the top of the Hot 100, trailed behind by Pitbull's Give Me Everything. Katy Perry seems unable to move past #4 with her latest single Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.). But it appears OneRepublic is on track to score their first mega hit since Apologize went to #2 a couple years back, with latest single Good Life vaulting into the Top 10, collecting the Digital Gainer Title standing at #8 this week. Jason DeRulo and Britney Spears are also both heading upwards this week, with Don't Wanna Go Home moving up to #16 and I Wanna Go rising to #17. Beyonce could very well get her first proper hit this era with Best Thing I Never Had rising to #23. Putting two mega country stars together often means big sales, and Brad Paisley's collaboration with Carrie Underwood on Remind Me seems to be doing a neat job for itself, hitting a new peak of #27 with virtually no promotion. And this streak of moving upwards is even affecting Disney darling Selena Gomez and her hypnotically robotic new single Love You Like A Love Song leaping from #66 to #35 this week. Rihanna's summer ballad California King Bed is also inching its way to the top, moving to #47 this week. You thought you'd never see this day coming, but Nicole Scherzinger's Right There seems to be rubbing American audiences the right way, peaking at #52 this week while fellow reality TV singing competition judge Jennifer Lopez, amidst her divorce with husband Marc Anthony, moves up the chart with I'm Into You at an all time high of #72. Avril Lavigne's new single Smile has finally arrived on the Hot 100, debuting at #94.

Over on the Albums Chart, Beyonce and Adele are non-movers with 4 and 21 holding the top two positions on the chart in that order while Selena Gomez & Her Virtual Band's new disc When The Sun Goes Down rises a spot to #3 after debuting at #4 last week. David Cook, however, has taken a little tumble as This Loud Morning falls from #7 to #26 this week. For reasons no one knows, the soundtrack to Christina Aguilera's debut film Burlesque scoops the Greatest Gainer Award as the album shoots up to #68 up from #147. British pop artist Ellie Goulding has found her way back to the chart as Lights re-enters at #127.

Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed live @ Jimmy Kimmel Live

Ellie Goulding released her debut album Lights stateside a while ago and has finally done some promotion, by debuting herself on national television performing her UK smash hit Starry Eyed. The performance itself was nothing exceptional, but it had a pretty neat drum solo close to the end.

Billboard Update

Lady Gaga spends her fifth consecutive week at #1 with Born This Way with Cee Lo Green's F**k You trailing behind her once again. Looking to lodge her fourth consecutive #1 track from Teenage Dream is Katy Perry with E.T. rising to #3 thanks to strong digital sales, while Rihanna slips a spot to #4 with S&M but gets the Airplay Gainer Title. Staying strong at #5 is Jennifer Lopez with On The Floor while Britney Spears leaps to #9 on the Hot 100 with her latest single Till The World Ends. Unfortunately, Ke$ha's Blow has fallen right to the rim of the Hot 100, falling to #10 this week. Moving up to #18 this week is Avril Lavigne's What The Hell, trailed behind by Christina Perri's breakout hit Jar of Hearts at #19. Glee's invasion on the Hot 100 is led by Landslide, debuting at #23 with Do You Wanna Touch Me, Animaland Kiss following suit at #57, #62 and #83. Jessie J shoots up with Price Tag peaking at #58 this week. Bruno Mars' The Lazy Song rises to #72 this week, making a brand peak. Jennifer Hudson's Where You At finally makes its chart impact, debuting at #96. Album track Wish You Were Here from Avril Lavigne's new album Goodbye Lullaby debuts at #99.

Over on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, Lupe Fiasco's new album Lasers ends Adele's chart reign as Lasers debuts at #1, pushing Adele's 21 into second place. Glee's new Volume 5 soundtrack debuts at #3 while Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby arrives at #4, making it her lowest-selling album so far in terms of first week sales. Bummer. With little to no promotion, Ellie Goulding's Lights was quietly released to the States, debuting at #129. Even I didn't know the release was so soon. Rubbish promotion. Sara Bareilles chart-topping album Kaleidoscope Heart re-enters at #192.

Ellie Goulding - Lights [Music Video Premiere]

After raving about British singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding's Your Song, the Brit shows there's still some of the electronica in her yet. Lights, the title track of her debut album, just had its music video premiere and it's pretty simple, showing Goulding bang on drums and dance around in lights.

Also, in other Ellie news, she's set to release her debut album Lights in the US in early March, with the original tracklisting plus Your Song, Animal, and Lights. Personally, I'd go for Your Song as her first single Stateside as March is after all - Britney and Avril month, and I'm sure Ellie doesn't want to come across as a wannabe of both, and not get lost in the shuffle with a simple yet outstanding tune like Your Song. Will she do well in the US though..? Hmmmm. I'm not completely sure she will.

Ellie Goulding - Your Song live @ Dancing On Ice

I should probably admit that I haven't been posting much about British singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding because I.. Well.. Kinda lost interest in her career. However, lately, I've been LOVING her latest single Your Song, a simple tune that works incredibly well with her unique tone. And the public seems to agree with me - Your Song is her highest charting single in the UK. EVER. Peaking at #2, it shows that a beautiful, sweet melody and voice is charming enough to send it near the top of the charts.

Goulding performed Your Song on Dancing On Ice last night, and I'm impressed with her live vocals. It sounds almost similar to the studio recording, which is remarkably better than when she first started out - performing Starry Eyed. Looks like Miss Goulding has really stepped it up. Check it out above.

Big News: Jason DeRulo nabs "Best Album of March"!

Pop/R&B star Jason DeRulo has certainly proven himself to be a major player in the music industry, nabbing chart-topping hits Whatcha Say and In My Head all over the world. DeRulo is getting ready to release his third single Ridin' Solo tomorrow in the US and on the 31st in the UK. Getting Best Album of March means he beat R&B veteran Usher, country newcomer Danny Gokey, UK pop sensation Ellie Goulding, and teen pop/R&B sensation Justin Bieber.

By the way, April had too few notable releases for the poll for Best Album of April and thus I'll be combining it with May's releases like what I did in January and February. The poll for Best Album of April/May will be available at the start of June.

Ellie Goulding - Lights

UK's latest pop sensation Ellie Goulding has found much success with single Starry Eyed, which hit the top 5 in the UK, eventually peaking at #4. Her debut album took the UK albums chart by storm and has released Guns And Horses as the album's third single on May 17th. She combines folk pop with electronica, an interesting blend which has earned her her fanbase. The album never really caught on with me but it's definitely a grower. Enjoy!

New Artist: Ellie Goulding

Many fresh new faces are emerging from the UK, and one of the latest comes in the form of Ellie Goulding. Her debut album Lights took the UK by storm and debuted right atop the UK albums chart. She rose to fame after topping the BBC Sound of 2010 poll and winning the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. Born in Hereford, England, Goulding was educated at the Lady Hawkins' High School in Kington, Herefordshire. She attended Hereford Sixth Form College before moving onto Kent University, where she was advised to take a gap year to pursue her talent.

Signed to Polydor Records in September 2009, her debut single Under the Sheets was released on independent label Neon Gold Records rather than Polydor so that she would not be put under too much pressure. Premiered on BBC Radio 1 on 30 September 2009, it has since gained heavy airplay. It was released digitally in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2009 and peaked at number fifty-three on the UK Singles Chart.

In October 2009 she toured the UK supporting Little Boots, and on 30 October 2009 performed Under the Sheets and Guns and Horses as a guest on Later... with Jools Holland.

She collaborated with Frankmusik on Wish I Stayed (which was featured as the Single of the Week on the UK iTunes Store from 22–28 December 2009) and provided vocals for the Starsmith remix of Passion Pit's Sleepyhead.

Prior to the release of her debut studio album, it was announced that Goulding topped the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, which showcases the critics, broadcasters and music industry insiders' top choices for rising stars and artists for the coming year. She also won the Critics' Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards which makes her the second artist to win both the poll and win the Critic's Choice award in the same year, after Adele won both awards two years previous.

Goulding's debut album, entitled Lights, was through Polydor on 1 March 2010, preceded by its second single, Starry Eyed, which was released 22 February 2010. For the majority of the album, Goulding worked with English producer Starsmith. It hit the top of the UK Albums Chart and #12 in the Irish Albums Chart in March 2010.

The poll for March's best album is up! Among those running for best album for March are Jason DeRulo, March's artist of the month, Danny Gokey, who released his debut country effort, UK's new pop sensation Ellie Goulding, teen pop sensation Justin Bieber who has since collected his first #1 album with My World 2.0, and R&B veteran Usher who recently released Raymond vs. Raymond which is set to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week thanks to all the promo he has been doing plus the handy boost from American Idol.
